The story revolves around Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old girl with Ehlers Danlos syndrome, which causes her limbs to become loose and constantly dislocated. One day, Violet is forced by her biological mother - the commander-in-chief of the Basgiath Military Academy - to take the entrance exam to become a dragon rider. Violet must get acquainted with a dragon and persistently train to join the army of the Kingdom of Navarre.
According to the book review site Goodreads, fans rated Fourth Wing 4.65/5 stars. Glamour magazine commented, "This book is addictive and will captivate you until the last line."
Publishers Weekly praised the way the magical world and characters in the novel are built. Paste writer Alana Joli Abbott appreciated the author's use of fables to increase the fantasy of the story.
The book has sold more than two million copies, been translated into 30 languages, and has been on The New York Times's hardcover bestseller list since May. On Deadline, at the end of October, a representative of Amazon MGM Studios said that they are working on a series adapted from the novel.
According to Time, the Barnes & Noble bookstore chain held an event to release the second part of the book - Iron Flame - at midnight at more than 200 stores in the US. Of which, the bookstore in Union Square, New York City attracted 600 participants, and tickets for the event sold out in minutes. Bookstores and distribution systems in the UK and Australia also held a series of events at midnight to launch the second part.
Rebecca Yarros, 41 years old, is an American author who has published more than 15 books. She started writing when her husband Jason was fighting in Afghanistan. In 2014, the work Full Measures was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award for a debut work. In 2019, Kirkus Reviews named Yarros’s The Last Letter one of the best books of the year.
The Yarros have six children, four boys and two girls. Like Violet in Fourth Wing, the author and her sons have Ehlers Danlos syndrome.
